Big Top Denver in updates and events

So I went to write this post about Unseen Denver’s birthday and I looked to see when I started this thing. Turns out it was February 20th so happy birthday to my little website. For the past year I have been gathering your photos and publishing them almost every day. I guess that’s all I can really say about that. I have gotten a bunch of attention because of this thing and it’s been pretty awesome. The truth is all I do is spend time posting updates that other people send me. The attention has been awesome but I can’t take any more credit for this than some shitty DJ can take credit for moving a crowd of drunk hipsters at the Rockbar. I don’t know who wrote on the walls, but if they didn’t the New York Times would have never given us any attention…and that was pretty kick ass.

The streets of Denver are a colorful place and I have been collecting memories of these streets since all-ages punk rock shows at the Mercury Cafe. The pictures of the streets are my memories and it’s clear to me that they are yours too. Thank you for all of the pictures you’ve sent. This collection is an archive of some of the most insignificant memories in our city. The tiny, fading footprint of the anonymous people that we share the streets with. And they are important to us.

No anniversary is without celebration and I would like to personally invite you to ours. On March 5, 2011 we are partying down with PopularLemonade.com and 2509 at Big Top Denver. These guys have been busting some serious ass to put on an incredible local show. I really want to tell you more about this event in this blog post but it’s past midnight and I’ve squeezed every bit of writing out that I can right now. We’re going to have live art, music, raffle prizes and of course booze all to benefit SafeHouse Denver. SafeHouse Denver is a local charity who has provided major assistance to victims of domestic violence for over 30 years.

Please mark your calendars and come celebrate Denver’s art, music and style from the apartments and alleyways that it comes from. See the bands, MCs and artists that illustrate life in the Mile High City…only looking up from the street rather than looking down from a newspaper office.

For information about SafeHouse Denver please visit www.safehouse-denver.org and please make a donation.
